Introducing The Hennessey Hammocks
Hennessey Hammocks are innovative designs of hammocks created by Tom Hennessey. Tom Hennessey, an avid camper, designed the first hammock based on his memory of a World War II United States Army hammock that he utilized while hiking as a teenager.
As the story goes, that particular hammock was lost, but served as his inspiration as he created a hammock based on his memory of that first camping hammock. His creation took less than a day to make as he personally stitched the material together. During this process, Hennessey realized that improvements could be incorporated.
When discussing the features and practicality of Hennessey Hammocks, there are two specific topics that need to be addressed. Those two topics include the style of the Hennessey Hammocks and the additional features available.
The Style Of Hennessey Hammocks
The modified style of Hennessey Hammocks over a traditional hammock was to provide additional space. This added space would provide greater support for the body as well as alleviate any perceptions of being smothered in a small compacted area.
The increased dimensions are in the area of width. This modification specifically allows for the user to have the ability to stretch out on the hammock without the need of bending the spine. These changes were realized as the basic pattern of Hennessey Hammocks took a traditional rectangular pattern and utilized a diamond shape design.
Other modifications included a design to the support webbing that allowed for free movement of air. Also, the protective tent portion of the hammock was adjusted. These adjustments included weatherized options that could be easily set in place. These options, to add to the comfort of the hammock user, depended upon the camper's preference and weather conditions.
Additional features that eventually were incorporated included the direct attachment of the end ropes to the actual hammock fabric. This modification resulted in creating additional space within the hammock. Also, a fabric backbone was created within the Hennessey Hammock. This feature allowed for the attachment of the tent portion of the hammock. More importantly this solid backbone allowed for the structure and conformity of the hammock to be maintained during each use.
Additional Features
Other features of Hennessey Hammocks include an entrance into the hammock that offers an automatic closing of the protective flap. This ingenious feature replaced the traditional zipper entrance way with a system that automatically closed behind the hammock user once that individual had moved their feet into the hammock area. Other protective features of Hennessey Hammocks include an insect netting and weather flap.
A Hennessey Hammock is a lightweight, two and one-half pound, piece of camping equipment that is contained in a four by twelve inch carrying sack. However, when fully extended for use, the hammock user will be pleased with the dimensions of the Hennessey Hammock that measures nine by 4 feet.
